The PRIDElist

Sign the 2019 PRIDElist here!

What is the PRIDElist? Why does UT have one?

The PRIDElist is a campus-wide initiative focused on raising the visibility of the LGBTQ+ community and its allies at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The goal of the PRIDElist is to ensure that our LGBTQ+ students feel welcome, supported, and at home here on Rocky Top.

Anyone with a UT affiliation (faculty/staff, current student, and/or alum) is encouraged to sign the list in support of the LGBTQ+ community. Sign this year’s list by September 25, 2019! The full list of supporters will be published in October, in conjunction with LGBTQ+ History Month, through the Daily Beacon and online on the Pride Center website.

With the PRIDElist, we hope to demonstrate to our students and campus community that they are not alone during their time here at Rocky Top but in fact surrounded by faculty, staff, fellow students, and alums that care about their identities and are passionate about making UT a more inclusive place. Participation in the PRIDElist initiative is voluntary.

We hope you will take a minute to add your name to the 2019 PRIDElist and help kick off this new campus tradition. Every single name counts toward our ultimate goal of being welcoming to all and hostile to none. Our goal is to increase the number of signatures each year until our entire campus community eventually signs it!

Our version of the PRIDElist is inspired by other lists done at other universities and colleges across the country.

Where will the PRIDElist be published and displayed? Does the list compromise anyone’s identity?

The PRIDElist will be published annually in the Daily Beacon (both print and digital versions) every October for LGBTQ+ History Month. It will also be posted on the Pride Center’s website and archived with the UT Libraries. Signing onto the PRIDElist is completely voluntary. No one is added to the list by our staff—all names are gathered from the signature submission form. If you have signed the list and wish to be removed before publication, please email as soon as possible before the signature deadline (2019 edition: September 25).

What are the PRIDElist posters around campus?

To promote the PRIDElist and increase visibility, we have created a matching poster campaign featuring members of the PRIDElist sharing their experiences of being openly/visibly LGBTQ+ and/or an ally. We hope they serve as year-round reminders of the PRIDElist in addition to highlighting the amazing faculty, staff, students, and alums at UT.

Who is the main contact for the PRIDElist?

The PRIDElist is spearheaded by the Pride Center and conducted in partnership with the Division of Student Life Office of Communications and Marketing and Student Media.
