The Daily Beacon: October 2019 issue featuring the inaugural PRIDElist
The PRIDElist is a published signature campaign intended to raise the visibility of the LGBTQ+ community and its friends at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Complementing our campus focus on mattering and belonging, our goal is to ensure that our LGBTQ+ students feel welcome, supported, and at home here on Rocky Top.
From late August to late September, anyone with a UT affiliation (faculty/staff, current student, and/or alum) can sign the list in support of the LGBTQ+ community. Those gathered names will be published in October, in conjunction with LGBTQ+ History Month, through The Daily Beacon and online on the Pride Center’s website. It will also be archived with the UT Libraries.
With the PRIDElist, we want our LGBTQ+ students to know that they are not alone during their time here at Rocky Top, but in fact, are surrounded by faculty, staff, fellow students, and alums who care about their identities and are passionate about making UT a more inclusive place. We understand that signing the PRIDElist is not the only way to show identity or allyship and for a variety of reasons, people may prefer to show support for the LGBTQ+ community in other ways. Participation in the PRIDElist initiative is voluntary. No one is added to the list by our staff—all names are gathered from the signature submission form. If you have signed the list and wish to be removed before publication, please email us as soon as possible before the signature deadline .
Vol is a Verb. We hope you will take a minute to add your name to the PRIDElist. Every name counts toward our ultimate goal of being welcoming to all and hostile to none.
